Kang & Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl is a family-friendly aerial carousel located in the Springfield section of Universal Studios Florida. Debuting on August 11, 2013, this attraction draws inspiration from The Simpsons' "Treehouse of Horror" episodes, featuring the notorious alien duo, Kang and Kodos.
As part of Universal Studios Florida's Springfield expansion, Kang & Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl was the final addition to the area. This expansion saw the transformation of the park's landscape, including the demolition of the International Food & Film Festival to make way for Fast Food Boulevard. Additional enhancements featured the introduction of themed mini-games in front of The Simpsons Ride, as well as new dining options like Duff Gardens, Lard Lad Donuts, and Bumblebee Man's Taco Truck.
Guests begin their adventure with a brief walk around the central spinner, leading into a shaded boarding area. While waiting, visitors are entertained with clips from the Treehouse of Horror specials, setting the stage for the intergalactic escapade ahead.
Upon boarding, guests enter UFO-themed ride vehicles, each humorously named with alien and space-related puns. Before the ride commences, a playful announcement instructs riders to remain seated until the attraction comes to a complete stop—or risk being "eaten." As the ride begins, Kang and Kodos reveal their mischievous plot, urging participants to "attack" Springfield by maneuvering their spacecrafts. Throughout the ride, characters such as Nelson, Homer, Bart, Willie, and Grandpa interact with riders as their images spin upon approach. Kang and Kodos provide additional commentary, enhancing the immersive experience. As the ride concludes, the aliens jest that only they truly enjoyed the experience, advising guests to forget any fun they might have had. Riders then exit near the attraction's entrance.
Manufactured by Zamperla, a renowned company specializing in amusement rides, Kang & Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl offers a two-minute adventure suitable for all ages. The attraction features 12 UFO-themed vehicles, each accommodating 2-3 passengers. Riders can control the vertical movement of their spacecrafts using an onboard joystick, allowing for interactive engagement with various targets throughout the ride.
The future of Kang & Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl is currently uncertain. Universal's licensing agreement for The Simpsons franchise is set to expire in 2028, following Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019, which included rights to the series. While there has been no official announcement regarding the attraction's closure, speculation suggests that Universal may choose not to renew the licensing agreement, potentially leading to the rebranding or removal of The Simpsons-themed attractions, including Kang & Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl, after 2028. Reports indicate that Universal might replace the Springfield area with new attractions featuring their own intellectual properties. However, these developments remain speculative, and no definitive plans have been confirmed by Universal Studios.
For fans of the ride and the series, it's advisable to experience the attraction sooner rather than later, as its long-term availability remains in question.
